What do we mean by CreaTech?
CreaTech is, in concept, the Creative Industries’ answer to Fintech, Healthtech, Biotech, EdTech; that burgeoning new economy which is creating new creative and commercial opportunities, and transforming current practice, by harnessing new and emerging technologies.
In March 2021 the Creative Industries Council commissioned The CreaTech Report 2021 from Tech Nation, in association with Digital Catapult and Moore Kingston Smith, to increase understanding of the fast-growing CreaTech space.
The report states that CreaTech is defined as the intersection of creative and tech industries where innovations in artificial intelligence, algorithms, virtual reality, specialised software and other areas are transforming creative services, outputs, and processes. The term encompasses both the transformation of the creative industries by technology, and the co-creation of tech products and services.

Interested in supporting the CreaTech Mission? Here are three good reasons to get involved
1. The Creative Industries are a major UK success story
The UK is recognised as a global hub for creativity and innovation and our creative sectors have historically been one of the fastest growing elements of the economy, integral to our economy, our culture and our image abroad, generating £116bn GVA (pre-COVID), 5.6% up on the previous year and employing 2.1m people in 2019, growth of more than a third since 2011. Prior to the pandemic, the creative sector was growing at four times the rate of the UK economy as a whole and experienced strong growth across all parts of the UK.
2. CreaTech is a growth driver for the UK Creative industries and the wider economy
The Creative Industries both drive and rely on technology-based innovation. New research is being undertaken, in partnership with Tech Nation, to map the UK CreaTech landscape, its importance to the creative industries ecosystem, and to highlight the opportunities and investment prospects for UK firms in the CreaTech space.
3. You can be part of our innovation plan
Greater innovation will help the UK’s creative industries not only recover swiftly from the pandemic but reinforce our world leading status in a rapidly expanding global market. There is an opportunity to locate the next wave of creative sector growth in the UK and ensure its benefits are felt right across the sectoral supply chain from multinationals to start-ups. We want to promote CreaTech success stories to central Government, the wider economy, and internationally, and offer opportunities, through our event programme and website, for CreaTech Ones to Watch companies to be profiled and promoted. We want to campaign for support, resource and funding to deliver sustained investment and growth for CreaTech.
